This past weekend was the first playoff game of the year. For the Eagles it happened to be against the Vikings, a team that featured the son of a PFPMA (Professional Football Players Mothers Association) member and a good friend of mine – Bryant McKinnie. Actually when we both knew it would be our sons teams playing against each other, it kind of made us a bit edgy, nervous and caused a sense of illness. We know it happens all the time but this was really different - it was the Playoffs. We just had a holiday celebration together three days before which we traditionally do with other moms in the area every year. But we said not a mumbling cheer for our teams. We both knew that someone would be very sad so we tried to keep it festive.
Well game time started and I just couldn't find myself to sit near her, because I have to focus. She made some of my friends sit on their hands so as not to cheer and I couldn’t do that. She constantly gave them odd looks and even told them that this was her house and I wouldn't allow her to cheer and scream for the opposing team in my house (She is right about that!).
Anyway the game was over and we won, but me and a few other Eagle moms were looking at each other crazy. Happy for our sons but sad for her, as we knew how she felt.
She was still edgy but joined us for dinner after the game. Whew that was HARD, and I know that it will take awhile for her to get over the loss. People know how much wear and tear it takes out of the players, but it takes its toll on the moms of a Professional Football Player too. We care for our sons and each other as we move forward in this game of football.
Now that I’m out of Minnesota, here’s an Eagles cheer – E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! OH oh, here come the Giants and their moms!

Congratulations on the victory.
I'm officially a cowboys fan, but I always place character first so when Donovan beats them I'm content. He's an excellent reflection of a strong family. Now I'm from New Jersey, but good luck against the Giants.
SLC
mam, i am a huge cardinals fan, and thus i am happy that we won this weekend. but i just wanted to say that i have followed donovan ever since he was at syracuse. not only is he a fine upstanding citizen, but one of the best quarterbacks i've ever seen.
i read a lot of things that the philly fans said about him. to be honest, i don't know how he puts up with that, myself. it is unwarranted and mean spirited.
i write this to you because, i know you are his mother, and i hope you know there are those of us out here who love donovan and the way he plays the game. even if he's not on our team.
for his sake, i hope someday he actually leaves philly, and goes somewhere where he can be appreciated.
and get his ring..
thank you mam
