On Tuesday, November 22, 2011, Donovan along with his wife, Raquel, and parents, Wilma and Sam, will host approximately 150 dinner guests at The Family Life Centre(4947 West Broadway, Crystal, MN) from 6:00-8:00pm.
The McNabbs are partnering with OASIS of Love, a 25-year old crisis intervention and family service agency in North MPLS with wide reaching services throughout the seven Metro Counties in Minnesota. Together they are sponsoring a tremendous outreach to needy families -- battered women, homeless, jobless, and senior citizens -- who might not have a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner guests -- about 150 -- will be served a delicious dinner as well as select items from the OASIS Boutique. Guests will be able to take home children's winter coats and warm weather gear, schoolsupplies, personal care items, warm blankets, soft toys, and books. Each family will receive a special dessert to go: a cake from the Purple "O" Campaign. OASIS launched the Purple "O" campaign as a domestic violence awareness and move to action endeavor that began in October and continues through April, 2012.
The community is invited to contact OASIS of Love for participation details at 612/529-6055. OASIS promotes collective work and community education around domestic violence prevention.
The Donovan McNabb Fund (formerly known as the Donovan McNabb Foundation) was established in 2000, shortly after Donovan became an NFL player. He has stayed true to his desire to help two specific groups: (1) those who suffer from diabetes and (2) children, specifically as it relates to their health and education. Millions of dollars have been raised and distributed to many groups including the American Diabetes Association. The Fund was started as a means to honor some of Donovanʼs close family members, including his father Sam, who have been diagnosed with diabetes.

Mama McNabb

Thought For Weekend

Life is to short to wake up with regrets. I had made up my mind before the season that I wouldn't attend this game. I figured a lot of Hoopla, and I didn't want the son to have another thing to worry about. But it wasn't the easiest game to watch either. This kind of game, the fans, my friends and distant family like because of its intensity and down to the wire. I can speak from a parents point of view. We like a large lead and the hearts get to slow down and beat rhythmically. So again the Team deserves the congratulations and a thank you from their signal caller who they treated with the game ball and the parents who watch them every game. I know all parents understand what I mean. Very happy for your children in whatever they do successfully.
And Thanks to the Philadelphia fans who were very nice to the McNabb family during our tenure there.

“HOOPIN’ FOR HEALTH” CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MOTHERS OF PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL PLAYERS (MPBP) ANNOUNCES FIRST “HOOPIN’ FOR HEALTH” CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME AGAINST THE PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS MOTHERS ASSOCIATION (PFPMA) TO BENEFIT THE UNITED NEGRO COLLEGE FUND
With a New Community Service Mission, MPBP Holds Its 2010 Annual Conference in Orlando With a Charity Fashion, Basketball Game & Mom’s Rookie Camp – August 6th - 8th

ORLANDO, July 12, 2010– The Mothers of Professional Basketball Players (MPBP) organization will hold its 2010 Annual Conference from August 6-8, 2010 in Orlando, FL. As the unifying body for mothers of current and retired professional basketball players, this year’s conference signifies the first gathering since revamping the organization. With a new dedication to service and the greater good of the community, this year’s event will include a Mom’s Rookie Camp, Welcome Reception and Social. However, the main event for the weekend will be the first-ever “Hoopin’ for Health” Charity Basketball Game with the Professional Football Players Mothers Association (PFPMA) playing the Mothers of Professional Basketball Players. Proceeds from the Charity Basketball game will be donated to the United Negro College Fund. Taking place on Saturday, August 7th at 6 PM at Olympia High School this game is not to be missed.

With the addition of the MPBP vs. PFPMA “Hoopin’ for Health” Charity Basketball Game, both organizations have united in the mission to inspire all women of all ages to become more active and mindful of weight related illness such as heart disease. “Mothers often think our job is done once our children are grown. However, it’s after the kids are grown when life really begins. As women, we have to keep it moving, keep our hearts strong and stay active no matter our age,” stated Flo Allen-Hopson, Mothers of Professional Basketball Players Association Member & Mother of Boston Celtics Player Ray Allen.

MPBP holds a special place in each of its Mom member’s hearts. “We currently have more than 150 mothers. We started the organization so that mothers of professional basketball players could have a support system. Our members know that they can call 150 other mothers at anytime day or night. The group was recently revised under the leadership of Lucille O’Neal to become more civic minded and help those in need” stated Allen-Hopson.

Led by Coaches Lucille O’Neal (mother of Shaquille O’Neal) and Marie Jackson (mother of retired player & current ABC commentator Mark Jackson), the MPBP team will feature Robin Paul (Chris Paul), Cheryl Howard (Dwight Howard), Flo Allen Hopson (Ray Allen), Vanessa Hughes (Larry Hughes) and Lisa Randolph (Anthony Hughes) and more. Players on the PFPMA team will include Char McNabb (Donovan McNabb), Cheryl Foster (Deshaun Foster), Chris Johnson (Larry Johnson), Sirreta Williams (Laveranues Coles), Nancy Jones (Dhani Jones) and more. The game will also feature commentator Jerome Bettis.

Rounding out the weekend’s festivities is the annual Fashion Show coupled with the “Crown Affair” Sunday Brunch. Clothing will be donated by Saks Fifth Avenue and modeled by some of the Moms and members of MPBP. Most of the proceeds from the fashion show will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

MPBP signifies a collective strong body of women who are the unifying components that represent the connection to the real world and the world of professional basketball. Its mission obligates members to support the various communities where their sons and daughters live, work, and play. As the National Basketball Association (NBA) continues to send the message, “The NBA Cares” it is MPBP’s intention to exhibit the same attitude with acts of caring and philanthropy. MPBP strives to invest in the human soul through its charitable works and fundraising efforts. Last year, MPBP donated $30,000 to the University of Las Vegas Center for Academic Enrichment and Outreach Program. In 2008, the organization donated $30,000 to the Orlando Boys & Girls Club.

Tickets for the “Hoopin’ for Health” Charity Basketball Game are $15 for adults and $7 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets will be available at the door as well as at local businesses and churches.

Individual seats and tables are available for the fashion show. you are now a Washington Redskins. With all the prayers we your family, your good friends and fans who love and appreciate you have prayed. You have been a wonderful QB and a well respected, class act young man. We have respect for your talents on and off the field. You deserve the best and I pray continued success with your new team.

Here is one of the prayers I received and know, it was heard by HIM.

"Father I thank you for Char. I thank you for her life and her vision and her love. I thank you for every trial and tribulation and every concern because it gives her an opportunity to seek your face and cast her cares on you. I thank you for giving her peace which surpasses all understanding. I thank you that whatever is before her that you already know the answer and we trust that whatever it is your perfect will is DONE! We release the cares of this life into your hands and thank you for making every crooked way straight, and unlocking the door which leads to the path she and her family are to take. I thank you for strength, power and wisdom as she takes authority over her thought and finds comfort and rest in you! In the name of Jesus! Nice guys finish first in all life's most important races. A nice guy like you can quickly find support in times of need. And he's sure to find the nicest girl---and keep her! A nice guy like you doesn't have to buy favors or friendship. God rewards nice guys with the kind of peace of mind that can only come with a clear conscience. Nobody ever looks at a nice guy with scorn and says, "I don't know how you sleep at night." Want to feel good and smile through the day? Want to sleep at night? Keep on being a nice guy.

Be the kind of man God can be proud of, and he will reward you with a good and meaningful life

Love, Mom

Mama McNabb

Wilma Char McNabb
PFPMA President

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436737417803250818" style="DISPLAY: block; Is it his strength, his mental power, his past successes? No. True self-confidence grows out of the knowledge of God's ability to lead and direct. When you know God is with you, you can fight any battle, take any risk. When you know God is leading you, you are able to step out boldly into unknown territory. When your confidence rests on a foundation of trust in God's power, you can be confident in using your gifts and talents. The opinions of others won't sway you, and tales of other men's failures won't scare you away. Understand that you can do whatever God calls you to do, and you will be able to make things happen in your life.

Mom
Wilma Char McNabb
PFPMA President
pfpma.org

Going Back To Dallas!!

I went, I wept, its over.

I'm going back to Dallas.

Mama McNabb

I'm Glad!

It was very nice to be at Lincoln Financial Field Sunday. The Eagles beat the Giants and moved into a tie for first place in the NFC East. Donovan played well and so did many of his teammates. The team scored 40 points and I think there were five different players to score touchdowns. It was a beautiful thing to see.

It made me very happy that the Eagles acknowledged a rare accomplishment that happened last Monday night when the Eagles played at Washington. Donovan threw his 200 career TD pass and reached the 30,000 yard mark as well. After the first play of the game the Eagles put that on the scoreboard and all the fans cheered.

I'm glad that his achievement did not go unnoticed. I've been told that not many NFL players have reached either of those marks and even fewer have done both. That list is filled with men who have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I've been to the inductions over the years as part of the PFPMA and realize what an honor and privilege it is to have my son mentioned in the same breath of some of those men. You can make it a real page-turner, filled with humor of the story, you'll want to live like a hero, bravely and honorably, trust in in God to deliver you from dark moments and to strengthen you to resist dark behavior. If you can live each day in that open book, you'll not only avoid moral pitfalls, you'll also create an inspiring life worthy of emulation and a witness for God worthy of your character. An open book means that any page can stand up to scrutiny. Instead of looking at what's wrong and feeling miserable, you'll be able to focus on what's right and feel good. The more you look for what's right in your life, the better your vision will get and the more you'll see. And that I've-got-it-good kind of happiness will turn you into a human magnet, attracting good people and great opportunities. (After all, who doesn't want to help a guy who's easy to please?) Remember to be grateful for the good things in your life, son and you'll soon find them multiplying.
A life of thankfulness releases the glory of God.

Wilma Char McNabb
PFPMA President

Proud Mama

As I sit here with tears running down my face, I think, Wow how proud I am to know and see what the Philadelphia Eagles have done today. To allow a person a 2nd chance. To allow a person to start to get their life back after serving the time. I am Thankful to the Eagles.

But more heart filled feelings is that Mama McNabb's baby boy had something to do with it. If you are a mother or a parent and see your child do something so unselfish as this, I'm sure you would be proud. I see it from what my parents taught me, a valuable lesson. Its not what you leave for your children that makes a difference, its what you leave in your children that's going to make the difference.

His unselfishness to help another athlete and asked his employer to give him a second chance was great. I expect good things to happen for my son.

Don't put off what you can do today, for later may never come. Stop putting off telling your kids how much you love them, appreciate them and how proud of them your are. Tell them while you still have the opportunity.

Donovan your Mama loves and appreciates what you have done today. I enjoyed beautiful breath taking views of New York City from the Hotel facing the Hudson River.
It was great visiting all of the moms of NFL players from all over the country. We celebrated one evening on the Spirit of New York with a Dinner cruise along the Hudson that sailed us next to the Statue of Liberty. She was so beautifully lit!
Saturday evening, we celebrated with a style show that featured moms along with their sons strutting down the runway. The 2009 Mother of the Year Award was given to Ms. Oracene Price, mother of American Pro-Tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. All of the proceeds from the evening went to support AtlantiCare (Healthy Kids/Healthy Schools) and the American Heart Association. I would like to especially thank our sponsors, Campbell’s, New York Life and all of the NFL Moms that made the weekend a wonderful and joyous event.

Hope to see all of you next year!

Mama McNabb

PFPMA's Conference

Greetings,
As we count down to football season, I wanted to invite you to join me as the Professional Football Players Mothers Association “Take a bite out of the Big Apple” at our Pre-Season Conference in Jersey City, New Jersey. It was very relaxing and fun to meet new folk. Ron & Es Martin and Carol & Richard MacKenzie. Our dinner time was full of funny and exciting conversation.. Between them we had Eagle fans, Patriot fans and Redskin fans. We had 1st time Cruiser and some who take a cruise 3-4x/yr. Ron is Mr. Almanac and we told him often. Quite the historian. Everybody was down to earth and we were glad to have met them. Maybe we might meet again in that West Virginia spot the Martins spoke about so so much about, we might have to go and see it. Take care guys and look forward to seeing you again.

Mama McNabb

I've Been Cruising!

Back from a cruise.
News to follow.
Met some good folk while cruising.
Would you like to know who?

Coming soon!!!

Mama McNabb

Women -N- Sports

V is for Victory. For the Eagles it happened to be against the Vikings, a team that featured the son of a PFPMA (Professional Football Players Mothers Association) member and a good friend of mine – Bryant McKinnie. Actually when we both knew it would be our sons teams playing against each other, it kind of made us a bit edgy, nervous and caused a sense of illness. We know it happens all the time but this was really different - it was the Playoffs. We just had a holiday celebration together three days before which we traditionally do with other moms in the area every year. But we said not a mumbling cheer for our teams. We both knew that someone would be very sad so we tried to keep it festive.

Well game time started and I just couldn't find myself to sit near her, because I have to focus. She made some of my friends sit on their hands so as not to cheer and I couldn’t do that. She constantly gave them odd looks and even told them that this was her house and I wouldn't allow her to cheer and scream for the opposing team in my house (She is right about that!).

Anyway the game was over and we won, but me and a few other Eagle moms were looking at each other crazy. Happy for our sons but sad for her, as we knew how she felt.

She was still edgy but joined us for dinner after the game. Whew that was HARD, and I know that it will take awhile for her to get over the loss. People know how much wear and tear it takes out of the players, but it takes its toll on the moms of a Professional Football Player too. We care for our sons and each other as we move forward in this game of football.

Now that I’m out of Minnesota, here’s an Eagles cheer – E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! OH oh, here come the Giants and their moms!

Mama McNabb

Happy New Year!

Wishing to all 12 Months of Happiness,
52 Weeks of Fun,
365 Days of Good Health,
8760 Hours of LOVE,
525600 Minutes of Blessings &
3153000 Seconds of Joy,
Happy New Year
!2009!

Reason For the Season

This is the time of year for you to enjoy family. To have joy, peace and love for each other. I know my family has that. We have been blessed in many ways, and enjoy sharing those blessings. We love doing charitable giving for people in every season.. Helping those that need help. Humbleness is a virtue and I am glad my family knows that. So remember that this season not only means football, it means togetherness, joy and love.

Mama McNabb

DOUBLE BLESSINGS!!!

What a wonderful week for the McNabb Family due to the recent births of twins, born to my son Donovan and his wife Roxi McNabb. Yes we have sons who live their dreams in the work force, but what a blessing it is to see that extension of us, I am bursting with pride! It was cold, windy and wet at the stadium. Oh and I'd like to send shout outs to Joe (giving me feet and hand warmers), Wendy at Champps, and all the Eagle fans I met and will remember who said they love having Donovan as their quarterback.
This game was different, none like I've ever seen or sat through in my tenure. It was grueling to sit through and we all know the result, a tie? Well my son said he didn’t know that a game would end that way, thought you'd play until the first team scored. I guess it could be confusing since the NFL has different rules for the regular season and the playoffs – playoffs never end in a tie.
I’m proud of my son for speaking the truth. He could have lied and said he knew but that’s not right.
I’m encouraged that a few other players defended him, and even more truthfully admitted that they were uncertain of the rule. That was courageous.

Mama McNabb

Showing Kindness To Others:

Do all the good you can.
By all the means you can.
In all the ways you can.
In all the places you can.
At all the times you can.
To all the people you can.
As long as ever you can.

-John Wesley

Mama McNabb

Watching The Game From A Mother's Eyes

Its difficult sometimes watching the game from my eyes. I only had a few miles to travel since the Eagles played in my home city this weekend. My last minute decision to prepare a menu for the team was a lot to do. It was all there when the team arrived at the hotel, thanks to Team McNabb who also worked hard to get this together quickly. We had all the soul food you could imagine. Don's favorite red beans and rice, mac & cheese, fried chicken, mixed greens, turkey & dressing, ribs and lots more. The team ate on china with silverware. We even had table cloths on the table. It was fabulous. Oh did I mention the desserts of peach cobbler, red velvet cake, carrot cake, German chocolate cake, and sweet potato pie. To see the smiles and hear the thanks was worth the effort. Some hadn't eaten good soul food for a while. From the rookies to the veterans along with coaches, trainers and media. Even John Madden ate which was an honor to have him sit and eat.
Well the team came up short against the Bears and I am disappointed but it was comforting for me to know the team ate well, and had a wonderful dinner party on Saturday. They sat and talked with each other laughed and enjoyed the comforts of home, my home brought to them by residence of Team McNabb.
Wilma Char McNabb

MY EAGLE IS COMING HOME TO PLAY THE BEARS

I always feel happy when my son comes home to visit and play the home team. That means a lot of good things to me, but there are pros and cons. It sometimes becomes more than just the game.
The pros: No travel, local friends and family get to go and the fans usually support their native son.
The cons: Everybody wants a ticket which can be a costly venture. Tickets are not free like some people think. The phone rings off the hook, folk you haven't heard from or seen in years. Most are Bears fans but say they are Donovan fans too. What exactly does that mean? Who would they rather see win? Also more media interviews and autograph requests.
I usually soften my thoughts because well it’s just football!
WHATEVER............
So as usual when the Eagle comes home means a busy week for us until Sunday, when the game is played!

GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!

Mama McNabb

Supporting Our Troops

As I sit here at Fort Meade Military Base in Maryland watching the kids play flag football, I am reminded when my sons played football as youths. I was fortunate enough to accompany the National Football Players Fathers Association (NFL Fathers) and I Am Not a Hero Foundation, Inc. (celebrating the military youth and family programs). Mr. McNabb served in the Navy for 24 years and I know first-hand as a former military wife, the silent duty of holding down the home front with my sons.

It was amazing to see all of the kids on the field participating, laughing and enjoying playing flag football during the foundation camp. I am also sure all of the kids’ parents who are deployed will be happy to know their children are smiling and really having a great time with the dads and retired NFL players. Although they are separated from one another, this one day under the light blue sky, few clouds and cool breeze…..these kids are enjoying just being kids. One final note on the football camp is we were honored to have Major General McQueen, the commanding officer, visit the dads and retired NFL players to personally thank them for their involvement in helping the kids of his deployed men and women who are fighting for our safety and freedom.

The next day we started by visiting the Army Reserve Command in Washington D.C. We then traveled to the new memorial at the Pentagon where we placed wreaths and visited many high ranking officers and enlisted personnel within the building to speak on how honored we are as parents to say who the real heroes are and thank those of them who fight to preserve the lifestyle we have here. We also wanted to share how much we appreciate all the work they do for the citizens of this country.

The climax of the visit was an impacting visit to Walter Reed Hospital, giving out small tokens of our appreciation, and just speaking with the young patients and their families was awesome. I think we helped each other in this visit as a meeting of reality and encouragement. As I now know I have nothing to complain about after seeing these seriously wounded but proud young men and women, some as young as 21 years old, fighting to keep us free. It’s tearful but true, lets all clap for the men of the Armed Forces every chance we get to let them know How Much We Love Them.

Mama McNabb

Monday Night Football!

Great Game,
Emotions were high!
Not enough defense?
And a loss.

Special Thanks to M. Well the answer is the same.
Sometimes I wish the we could do the same on Game day. Push the button for the WIN. Yesterdays game looked easy, without grave errors. Every team member played a good game, no major injuries, we sang the Eagle song often and had a great outcome. This seems to be the discussion in many articles across the country lately. Since the 2005 season, nine players from one NFL team were arrested. One player, killed in a drive-by shooting in downtown Denver after leaving a nightclub on New Year’s Eve…. Other players being questioned about triple shootings. Let’s not forget that there were over 400 arrests during the NBA All-Star weekend in Las Vegas.

Is “3 strikes and you’re out” the answer? Maybe, but I would like us to consider why we are having this problem in the first place. As we look around, the number of role models in professional sports has not diminished. They are still everywhere.

There are still many professional athletes that demonstrate greatness in values, incredible kindness and care. There are still professional athletes that are hard working and dedicated to thinking and acting in a manner that is considered a good example for others.vv Perhaps a better solution is to attack the issue at the root. Growing role model athletes takes nurturing from the beginning. As parents it is important to be there for our children. We need to take them to practice, not just send them to practice. We need to be there when they win… and when they lose. We should be the narrator of life’s lessons to be learned as they are so often played-out through sports.

When we are not there….someone or something else will be.

Season Ending

When your season is over, you feel like you need to be doing something - something game related. We are usually still in the mode of dwelling on what we could have done better - or what should have been easier - instead of what we did well. It's a wonderful time to look ahead at what we can do next time to improve. Our children learn from us and there's great learning in having a conversation with them. When the season is over there is a void to fill. Acting professionally in the workplace, and being a cooperative co-worker is just like being a good teammate on a sports team. So even if I don’t agree with a ref’s call - or you don’t agree with your boss’s decision – I always try to be supportive and professional when I’m on the sidelines cheering on my son. For example, with both of my sons participating in sports when they were in high school, the holidays had to take a back seat during their sports seasons. We had to schedule our Thanksgiving and Christmas plans around their practices and games. When Donovan was at Syracuse, they always played at home around Thanksgiving, so we would cook the food and take it with us to his dorm, then invite over the team to eat with us. With his NFL career, it’s similar. We figure out what time we’re going to eat Christmas dinner based on when he would get home from the game. This year the Eagles play on Christmas Day, but it’s an away game, so it’s going to be more challenging to sit down as a family and share in a holiday meal. So yes, there is some sacrifice involved, but as a sports mom, it’s a sacrifice I’m happy to make.

Accountability/Responsibility

Accountability/responsibility are two fold. Injuries are something you can never do enough preparation for. Watching your son go through pain and not be able to take it for him is every parents nightmare. It happened so quickly. Not a hard hit or even a tackle… it happened on the sideline. He fell awkwardly and is now out for the season.

But the Thanksgiving season puts a spin on the situation for me. I am grateful it's just his knee. I still get to see his smile and his personality. I won’t stress out because he’s not on the field. Now I can cheer like a fan for the team and not worry about his runs, his passes, his touchdowns and my own heart.

So folks, I keep looking toward the continued blessings we have at Thanksgiving because the entire McNabb family is surely blessed. Don’t get me wrong, I love the game of football. I look forward to the schedule. Especially this weekend against the Colts. Marvin Harrison (from Philadelphia) has 3 buses going to Indy. It was sure to be lots of fun with Eagles fans and Marvin’s folks. Anyway, keep the faith folks, we are coming back better than ever. Moms on the Move/HGTV-TV is a show that empowers moms. I prepared a diabetes-friendly meal. Will alert you to when it will air. I left there and was driven directly to Comcast Sports near Philadelphia. Interviewed with the host about howidodiabetes.com. Of course, you never get away without talking football any opportunity they get, they will ask about my son and his team. My last stop was at the Beverly Hill Middle School in Philly. The school emphasized that “The only marriage that must work for the sake of children is the marriage between home and school.” A philosophy I recommend. I spoke on “Lessons & Rewards,” of which Donovan was a recipient. Sports taught him many lessons & I rewarded him for the lessons he learned. But the treat for me was a song the students sang. I teared up a bit and wish to share it with you. “Let Them Be Little”.

“Let Them Be Little” by Lonestar

I can remember when you fit in the palm of my hand
Felt so good in it, no bigger than a minute
How it amazes me, you’re changing with every blink
Faster than a flower blooms they grow up all too soon

So let them be little ‘cause they’re only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

I’ve never felt so much in one little tender tough
I live for those kisses, prayers and your wishes
Now that you’re teaching me things only a child can see
Every night while we’re on our knees all I ask is please

Let them be little ‘cause they’re only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

So innocent, a precious soul, you turn around
It’s time to let them go

So let them be little ‘cause they’re only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

Let them be little
© 2004 Lonestar

Don't Forget Mothers

Dont forget, Mothers -- worry shatters the peace of life.
